You have probably thought about, or even tried, the other options

The hustles

Everything that promised “easy money”

  • Crypto and FX, which move whether you understand them or not
  • Dropshipping and Amazon, where the margin belongs to the platform
  • Remote sales, making somebody else rich on commission
  • A franchise, at six figures before you open the doors
  • Consulting, which is selling your hours with worse security
  • A course you bought in good faith and never finished
A profession

Something you qualify in and then own

  • A real certification, in a method that already works
  • Clients who already need somebody and cannot find one
  • Paid a fee for your judgement, not for your hours
  • No premises, no staff, no stock, run from a laptop
  • Your own agency, your own brand, every fee yours
  • Trading in twelve weeks

The difference is not the money. It is that this one is a profession with a client on the other end, and the work you learn is the work you would want done for you.

The part most people miss

Learn it once. Use it twice.

You learn to buy businesses for other people, and you get paid a fee every time you do it. The same method, the same tools and the same eye for a good deal work just as well when the buyer is you.

Most agency owners end up doing both: buying for clients, and buying for themselves.

What you get when you join

Not a folder of videos. A certification, a method, and people around you while you build.

01

The full certification

Twelve modules released one a week, taking you from your first look at a deal to a signed client. Assessed at week six. Certified Business Buyer's Agent in the Institute's own methodology.

02

Live calls every week

Taken by Sanjay, not a junior. One on buying businesses for other people, one on launching and running your agency. Bring whatever you are stuck on.

03

AI deal tools

Tools that read a set of financials in minutes and tell you what is missing, so your time goes on judgement instead of spreadsheets.

04

The document library

Scripts, checklists, engagement letters and agreements, pre-built and ready to use. Nothing you do starts from a blank page.

05

The referral network

Brokers, accountants and finance brokers who send deals and clients. We show you exactly who to approach and what to say.

06

The agency owners

Everybody else building the same thing, and the ones who went before you. Deals get shared, questions get answered, and nobody does this alone.

Everyday professionals stopped selling their hours to somebody else

And started getting paid on the deal, in a profession the market cannot get enough of

How does it work?

The fee

$25,000 per deal

Your fee is a percentage of the transaction: $25,000 on a million dollar business, and more on larger ones. Fees the work pays, not a projection of earnings.

The timeline

90 day launch

Certified at week six, your agency built and ready to launch at week twelve.

The entry

No experience required

No finance background, no degree, no prior acquisitions. A long career already built what this work runs on: judgement, process and senior people.

The support

Full training provided

The whole method taught on a real acquisition, 106 templates and AI deal tools, the sales system, and senior eyes on your live deals.

The business

What a business buyer's agency does

You act for the buyer. Four steps, and you outsource every piece of technical work to specialists you brief.

01

Engage motivated buyers

People who already have the money and are about to spend it. Your marketing and lead generation are built for you.

02

Find them a business

Search on and off market, shortlist the good ones, and check the numbers actually stack up.

03

Run the deal

Negotiate the price, brief the accountant and the lawyer, and drive it through to settlement.

04

Get paid

Your client pays you to act for them, and the fee is a percentage of the transaction. $25,000 on a million dollar business, and more on larger ones.

The service your client is paying for

1

Search the market

On and off market, so they see what nobody else does

2

Shortlist the opportunities

Only the ones genuinely worth their time

3

Verify the numbers

Whether the business is really worth the asking price

4

Lead the negotiation

Price, terms, and holding the line for them

5

Manage it to settlement

Briefing the specialists and driving it through

You do none of the technical work, and you never work alone. The accountant runs the financial due diligence, the lawyer handles the contracts, the finance broker arranges the funding. You sit at the centre and brief them. Your job is judgement and process.

What we provide

We take you from nothing to launch-ready

Twelve weeks, guided the whole way. You do the building, because it is your business and you need to understand how it runs. We give you the process, the templates and the answers, and check your work before you trade.

Certified at week six. Ready to launch at week twelve.

1

The whole method

How to find, verify, negotiate and settle a deal, applied to a real one as you go rather than taught in theory.

2

Setting the agency up

Guided through structure, operations, terms of engagement, pricing and tools, step by step, until it is ready to launch.

3

Marketing and lead generation

The outreach scripts, the funnel templates and the referral engine, and the guidance to put them to work in your own market.

4

The sales system

The conversation from first enquiry to signed client, scripted and practised before you ever use it for real.

5

Live support every week

Live calls every week, taken by Sanjay, working through the programme with you as you build them.

6

The document library

106 templates, engagement letters, checklists and AI deal tools. Nothing starts from a blank page.

What it carries

The KORR four

The knowledge, the opportunity, the resources and the relationships. Everything the Institute has sits under one of them, and you get all four from day one.

K

The knowledge

The method itself: how to find, verify, negotiate and settle a deal, learned on a real acquisition rather than in theory, and kept current as it develops.

O

The opportunity

The credential, your listing on the certified register, and a market where half a million owners are heading for the exit with very few professionals representing the buyers.

R

The resources

106 templates, engagement letters, checklists and the AI deal tools, plus the funnels and sales scripts. Nothing you do starts from a blank page.

R

The relationships

Sanjay on your live deals while they are still in play, the deal team you brief on every transaction, and the network of agency owners around you.

What it takes to run

What you need to start

Most businesses need premises, staff, stock or equipment before a dollar comes in, and most opportunities need a background you have not got. This one needs a laptop.

Sanjay Pandaram, The Acquisition Guy, Business Buyers Institute

I did the corporate thing at the highest level there is, and I still left. Not because the money was bad. The money was good. I left because I wanted my time back.

Sanjay Pandaram is The Acquisition Guy at Business Buyers Institute, which trains, certifies and supports people to operate as business buyer's agents with an agency of their own.

He spent twenty years inside the institutions: Head of Strategy at Citibank Asia Pacific, Head of Finance at Macquarie Bank, Head of Analytics at Lloyds International and Executive Manager of Corporate Banking at Commonwealth Bank. He is a CPA of more than twenty years and has reviewed over $500m of businesses.

He works with everyone personally, which is the reason the Institute only takes on a small number at a time.

Who we are looking for

This suits some people and not others

We are deliberately clear about it, because the wrong fit costs everybody time and money.

A good fit

  • You want an agency of your own, not another job
  • You are comfortable talking to people about money
  • You can give it three to four hours a week
  • You want to start now rather than at some point
  • You are in a position to invest in setting it up

Not a fit

  • You are looking for passive income
  • You want something that runs without you
  • You cannot give it three to four hours a week
  • You expect clients to be handed to you
  • The investment would put your family under pressure
The next step

Get certified and launch

Forty-five minutes on your situation specifically: where your background fits, what launching would look like for you, and what the investment is.

The short version

I did the corporate thing at the highest level there is, and I still walked away.

Twenty years inside the institutions. Head of Strategy at Citibank Asia Pacific. Head of Finance at Macquarie. Head of Analytics at Lloyds International. Executive Manager of Corporate Banking at Commonwealth Bank. A CPA of more than twenty years, with over $500m of businesses reviewed.

On paper it was everything. In practice I was selling my hours to somebody else, and no salary was ever going to give me my time back.

So I left, and I started buying businesses. Then people started asking me to do it for them, and I found out something that surprised me: the seller always has a broker, and the buyer almost never has anybody. It is the most obvious gap in the market I have ever seen, and there is nearly nobody filling it.

Now I train people to fill it. I take both live calls myself every week, and I do not hand anybody off to a junior.

Sanjay Pandaram · The Acquisition Guy

Your questions, answered

Can I do this with a full-time job?

Yes, and most people do. It takes about three to four hours a week, and it runs around whatever you are already doing. Nobody is asking you to quit anything.

I have never bought a business. Can I really do this?

Most people who start have not. You learn the method by running a real deal with us beside you, which is the only way anybody ever actually learns it.

Do I need a finance degree or a qualification?

No. You need to be able to read a set of numbers once somebody has shown you how, and to have a straight conversation with a business owner. We teach the first and you already do the second.

Do I need my own money to put into deals?

No. You are representing the buyer, not buying the business. Their money buys the business. You are paid a professional fee for the work.

Where do the clients come from?

Referrals from brokers, accountants and finance brokers, and direct outreach to people who are already looking. We build that engine with you in phase two.

How long until I am trading?

Certified at week six. Open for business at week twelve. If you already have a business and a licence, you can be signing clients from week seven.

Do I need a licence?

It depends where you are, and requirements vary. We walk you through exactly where you stand and the pathway runs alongside the programme.

What does it cost?

We walk you through the investment on the call, before anything is asked of you. It is a business, so it takes money to start, and it is far less than any other business you could open.

Become a business buyer's agent. Own a business buyer's agency.

We train people to become business buyer's agents, and we help them launch their own agency.

Business Buyers Institute certifies people in its own methodology and supports them while they launch and operate their own independent business buyer's agencies. Agency owners own their businesses outright and trade under their own names. Business Buyers Institute is not a registered training organisation and nothing offered is nationally recognised or accredited training. Certification is in the Institute's own methodology. Nothing on this page is financial, legal, taxation or investment advice, and nothing here constitutes an offer of a franchise or of securities. Registration and regulatory requirements for business broking and advisory work vary by country, state and territory, and confirming and meeting the requirements that apply to you is your responsibility. Any fee figures shown describe the professional fees this work typically pays, based on a percentage of transaction value. They are not a projection, forecast or guarantee of earnings. What an agency owner earns, if anything, depends on their own effort, skill, market and circumstances. Outcomes are not guaranteed. Seek independent professional advice before acting.
